Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers and cool wet winters. It is best to visit during the dry season, from October to May, but it can be visited all year round. Whales are present from July to November.
1 Day
Coastal scenery, Winelands, whale-watching, penguins
After breakfast, we make our way along the beautiful False Bay Coast via Betty’s Bay towards Hermanus. This route is truly spectacular, and during whale season, it is common to spot whales in the bay. We stop at Stony Point, the best place to see African Penguins and several other marine bird species. We then continue to the Hemel en Aarde Valley for a wine-pairing lunch (optional). This valley, aptly named “Heaven and Earth” in Afrikaans, is home to a number of wine estates noted for their exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We then continue to the picturesque coastal town of Hermanus, nestled between a tranquil bay and the rugged, fynbos-clad mountains. Between July and November, Hermanus is one of the best land-based whale watching spots in the world, and we will hopefully spot Southern Right or Humpback Whales in the bay. We then return to Cape Town via the beautiful Elgin Valley, with its apple and pear orchards.
