Cape Peninsula Day Tour
1 Day
We start the day with a visit to the world-famous Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. These magnificent gardens, set on the slopes of Table Mountain, contain an amazing variety of indigenous plants and birds found on the Cape Peninsula. We then take a scenic drive around the foot of Table Mountain and ‘The Twelve Apostles’. We pass some of the most magnificent beaches in Cape Town - Clifton, Camp’s Bay and Llandudno - before travelling via the awe-inspiring Chapman’s Peak Drive (weather-permitting) and the misty cliffs of Scarborough to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. This nature reserve is recognised globally for its extraordinarily rich fauna and flora and its striking landforms. Animals seen here include Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Eland, Chacma Baboons and up to 250 species of birds. After lunch at Cape Point, we walk up to the lighthouse, where we will have spectacular views of False Bay, the Atlantic, and the Cape of Good Hope – the south-western tip of Africa! It is possible to include a visit to the Boulders Penguin Colony this afternoon (although we usually skip this if you are planning to do our Whale Coast Tour, which includes a visit to the Stony Point colony). We then make our way back to your hotel via the picturesque seaside ‘villages’ of Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg.

After breakfast, we make our way along the beautiful False Bay Coast via Betty’s Bay towards Hermanus. This route is truly spectacular, and during whale season, it is common to spot whales in the bay. We stop at Stony Point, the best place to see African Penguins and several other marine bird species. We then continue to the Hemel en Aarde Valley for a wine-pairing lunch (optional). This valley, aptly named “Heaven and Earth” in Afrikaans, is home to a number of wine estates noted for their exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We then continue to the picturesque coastal town of Hermanus, nestled between a tranquil bay and the rugged, fynbos-clad mountains. Between July and November, Hermanus is one of the best land-based whale watching spots in the world, and we will hopefully spot Southern Right or Humpback Whales in the bay. We then return to Cape Town via the beautiful Elgin Valley, with its apple and pear orchards.
